Information Sources on Anthropometrics:
-
The last "primary" source of anthropometric information on the adult population was data collected from a civilian population by the U.S. Public Health Service in 1962. These data have not yet been updated.
-
The first "primary" source of anthropometric information on children was collected in 1975, called "Anthrokid."
-
The next "primary" source for anthropometric information on the adult population will be CAESAR, body scanning data collected from international sources by the U.S. Government, other governments and the Society of Automotive engineers. The older percentile system will be replaced.
-
No new source on children has been planned for collection.
Narration of Slide 40
Listen
to the Audio (MP3, 288 KB) or read the transcript:
Surface anthropometry differs from traditional anthropometry in that the human body is scanned in a three dimensional scanning device called a "full-body scanner." Using 3-D scanners, there is now the potential for anthropometry to be produced on a continuing basis creating an accumulation of related data - providing that the protocol for data collection remains the same. In surface anthropometry, the number of dimensions is infinite depending upon the resolution of the scanner. The accuracy of data collection is currently being evaluated but the potential for highly accurate dimensioning is possible in surface scanning.
