Narration of Slide 24

Listen to the Audio (MP3, 316 KB) or read the transcript:

80% of all people over the age of 65 own their own home. However, the housing stock that is owned by older Americans is typically in need of significant repair and renovation. Aging in place is affected by the condition of the house itself - and its appropriateness to support the well-being of individuals as they progressively age. Additionally, as stated previously, many older adults - especially women - live alone and may not be capable of attending to a property that requires upgrades and continual maintenance. In the northern climate of America, weather conditions, temperature, snowfall and rainfall, play a role in an older person's ability to move freely from the home.
