Disability alters the performance of activities. Severe disability is defined by the Bureau of the Census as someone needing personal assistance with one or more activities of daily living or an instrumented activity of daily living. Assistance may come in many forms, including personal attendance by a person, a trained "work" animal and, of course, products and technology. Products and technology can provide the least costly alternative for personal assistance. Fortunately, computer technologies and information and telecommunication technologies have developed rapidly and are providing greater accessibility to people with even the most severe disabilities
