Electronic Technologies and Older Adults...
Television technology has made an enormous impact upon the lives of older adults. Television watching is very high among older Americans.
The remote control for both television and VCR control have become the stuff of legendary humor about the forgetfulness of older adults. However, the arcane nature of technological complexity involved in the use of remotes and television/VCR settings is changing for the better. Controls on the surface of remotes are more useable than just a few years ago. A control on the TV that would initiate a beeper on the remote would aid in location.

The television remote control has moved through a period of metamorphosis - from becoming overly complicated with far too many similar controls both visually and tactually to addressing the issue of control differentiation. There has been improvement and better understanding of the issues of comprehension that affected all users of these technologies.
