Narration of Slide 51

Listen to the Audio (MP3, 350 KB) or read the transcript:

The impact of information and telecommunications technologies upon the lives of all Americans is undeniable and has happened with great speed. The computer moved from the world of work into the home within a few short years. The term "digital divide" was coined to express the concern that older Americans and many others without the financial resources were being left out of participation in this revolutionary change in information and communication technology and methodology. There is evidence now that older Americans have closed "the gap" in their digital divide - partly by self initiating a learning process to bring up their skills and partly because the youngest among the older adult population have computer skills acquired prior to their 50s and 60s.
