...Redundant Cueing of controls through color and shape coding allows for signaling using both visual and tactile cues. These cues are supported through the positioning or ganging of similar controls for like functions.

... controls and display design has taken into account the human factors issues of visibility and legibility presented by the older adult. The control devices are shape, color and tactile coded. Their locations are grouped according to function and there are larger surfaces on controls in order to make the position and feel easier to identify and use.
Such devices also require the backup of the visual and tactile cues by sound. Audible beeps within the auditory range of the older user when controls are actuated can be useful - where there are critical functions.. Including low battery power.
