Glare is exacerbated in this outdoor situation by the problems of low level accommodation and adaptation. The shifting light levels pose serious visibility problems and there is an absence of pathway markers in plain view. Notice how the sunlight pouring through the roof opening becomes a spot of light with defused glare masking he tree forms.

...details fall away from view and focus is more difficult. It is possible to make mistakes about identification of environmental cues or confuse shapes in an environment. The light source at the edge of the roof structure may appear to be an artificial light source. More importantly, edges are difficult to see. Small changes in ground surfaces and levels also become harder to perceive.
