Vision: The following guidelines should be followed in the application of text... "figure/ground" relationships in order to achieve maximum visibility in signage.
In the creation of signage, it is helpful to maintain a "stroke" to "width" ratio of 1 to 6.

The legibility of signs is an important issue. In the research that supported the development of the ANSI 117.A standards, it was determined that stroke of letter to width of the stroke should be at a ratio of 6 to 1 respectively. This relationship heightened the accuracy of sign legibility.
