The "preferences" of older adults have been the subject of a great deal of speculation as well as careful study. For example, studies of housing preferences among older Americans have shown that the population over the age of 70 is almost evenly divided between preference for communities that are age segregated or showing preference for mixed communities. Regardless, older adults may be making more changes in living arrangements as the age than at any other time in their lives. Additionally - and clearly - we bring our experiences with us throughout life. Sharing experiences with others who have them in common is an important social and psychological experience throughout life.
