Narration of Slide 5

Listen to the Audio (MP3, 351 KB) or read the transcript:

There is mythology surrounding aging that is born of prejudice and unfounded assumptions about getting older. Mythology about aging includes such notions as all older adults prefer living with other older adults; older people have no affinity with the young... and that all older people are either poor or have little discretionary income. As it will be demonstrated through this segment, aging is complex and the population heterogeneous. Older people cannot be described with over-simplifications and stereotyping. The older population in America is a formidable force to be reckoned with in the economy, in society and politically.
