Slide 48[D]

Slide 48 Content

America is a country of continuous migration...even nearing the 21st century, migration continues as new arrivals, jobs, opportunities, scenery and the draw of the coasts pull people away from the middle states.

Narration of Slide 48

Listen to the Audio (MP3, 323 KB) or read the transcript:

Migration in America has a very definite pattern - away from the center of the country and out to the coasts. The slide depicts the intensive migration of Americans and others to the west coast - especially California, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and the upper west of Washington and Oregon. The map also expresses the migration experienced in the northern region of Georgia, Florida, Texas and other states of the eastern coast and seaboard. The middle axis of the country from North Dakota through to northern Texas show little influx of new arrivals - and likely the loss of population in the second half of the 20th century.
