Computing and information technology in general have been rapidly absorbed into the American lifestyle, world of work and into the realm of consumer product development. Computing is malleable in use and can accommodate even extreme levels of disability. While not perfect by any means - and subject to many complaints - the computer has enabled many within society who may not otherwise be gainfully employed. Additionally, the rapid expansion of the Internet as a free resource for communications and information exchange became the vehicle for new forms of business, some successful and others fly-by-night. However, the rapidity with which professions adopted new technologies required of all who practice them to continuously upgrade their skills, continuously learning to retain employment.
