CATEA Receives Grant to Promote Science and Math Access for Post-Secondary Students
Georgia Tech’s Center for Assistive Technology and Environmental Access (CATEA), a research unit of the College of Architecture, recently received a grant from the Office of Post-Secondary Education at the U.S. Department of Education for a demonstration project to enhance access for students enrolled in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) coursework. The project, called SciTrain U., is slated for three years at a total budget of $946,000.

Office of Developmental Disabilities Courses being developed by CATEA
CATEA is developing a series of courses to demonstrate the application of assistive technology and universal design in the lives of people with developmental disabilities. Four courses will be presented in multiple locations across the State of Georgia to employees of the Office of Developmental Disabilities.

New Georgia Tech Certificate in Workplace Accommodations and Home Modifications
As an architect it is important to understand the needs of people with disabilities and to design buildings and homes that accommodate them. The Center for Assistive Technology and Environmental Access, a division of Georgia Tech’s College of Architecture, has developed a series of courses designed to teach you to better create solutions that facilitate greater independence for people with disabilities and aging adults.

New Survey on Outdoor Wheelchair Propulsion And Wheel Lock Usage
This survey is designed as part of a graduate research project for CATEA employee, Jonathan Jowers. The results of this survey will aid in Jon’s research for the design of a braking system for manual wheelchairs.
